Devour! Wine Seminars & Tours: Learn to Wine Like a Pro

Want to look like an expert at your next cocktail party?

Learn how to “speak” wine and cider at our Devour! wine and cider education seminars on Saturday, June 16th.

Join the winemakers and cidermakers from the Similkameen Independent Winegrowers association for informative and fun discussions about growing, making, and –most importantly– drinking our amazing BC wines and ciders.

Devour! Wine Education Seminars:

BEST VARIETALS OF THE SIMILKAMEEN VALLEY
Which varietals love the Similkameen the most? Find out at this seminar, featuring:

  • Charlie Baessler, Corcelettes Estate Winery
  • Howard Soon, Vanessa Vineyard
  • Tim Cottrill, Robin Ridge Winery
  • George Hanson, Seven Stones Winery

Winemakers tell you why they’ve chosen their particular varietals, and let you taste the award-winning wines that support their arguments. Cheers to the best of the Similkameen!

THE MICRO-TERROIRS OF THE SIMILKAMEEN VALLEY
What’s a micro-terroir? Learn why every inch of the Similkameen soil can affect the flavour of the wine. You’ll sound like a sommelier when you discuss the variations in location, direction, and terroir that can be found in the valley. Featuring:

  • Mike Clark, Clos du Soleil Winery
  • John Weber or Aaron Godard, Orofino
  • Mike Dowell, Liber Farm and Winery
  • Brad Makepeace, Hugging Tree Winery

Taste the subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences that can be found here. (They’re all delicious!)

CIDERS AND FRUIT WINES OF THE SIMILKAMEEN
Crushing grapes isn’t the only way to make a refreshing beverage! This valley is a fertile garden for a variety of fantastic fruits. Learn how the Similkameen is a leader in the fruit wine and cider industries. Featuring:

  • Sara Harker, Rustic Roots Winery
  • Kaylan Madiera, Twisted Hills Craft Cider
  • Nathan Venables, Forbidden Fruit/Dead End Cellars

Taste the amazing modern flavours of the deep Similkameen fruit-producing roots (then wow your guests with your “fruitful” knowledge).

Expand your wine vocabulary even further on Sunday, June 17th, from 10am-5pm. Take advantage of the Devour! The Similkameen tours.

Wine-d your way through the spectacular Similkameen, and show your Devour! wristband for discounts and specials. Tours can be self-guided (pick up a passport at any Devour! event, the 12 participating wineries & cideries, or our co-sponsors at Destination Osoyoos) or sign up for a guided tour with any of our partner tour operators.
