New General Manager | David McBean

Watermark Beach Resort is thrilled to welcome David McBean as general manager, effective immediately.

McBean is the perfect fit to lead the Watermark Beach Resort team, bringing over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He holds an International Sommelier Guild (ISG) – Level One accreditation, and throughout his career has transitioned seamlessly between global brands and independent properties.

“I’m thrilled to join the incredible team at Watermark Beach Resort,” said McBean. “I know Watermark has all the ingredients to becoming a world-class resort and destination. As a Southern Okanagan resident, I see the resort’s relationships with the surrounding regions and partners, and how it has brought value to the local community. I’m excited to continue building on the strong foundation Watermark has developed over the years.”

Having worked at every level of guest services and hotel operations, McBean began his hospitality career as an elevator operator at the CN Tower in Toronto, his hometown. Upon graduating from the Hospitality and Tourism Administration program at Centennial College, he joined Fairmont Lake Louise, which set the stage for a lifelong career in hospitality. “Six months turned into five years,” joked McBean, referring to his time in Alberta. “I had the opportunity to see how a resort truly operates during my time at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, which inspired me to pursue a lifelong path in hospitality.” McBean’s commitment to excellence, passion for developing and delivering remarkable guest experiences and building high performing teams is the perfect fit for Watermark Beach Resort.

Since then, McBean has held leadership roles in revenue management and operations with respected brands such as Delta Hotels in Vancouver, and Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre, where he was instrumental in transitioning the Resort from a branded property to an independent hotel. Most recently, he held the director of operations role at Spirit Ridge, Unbound Collection by Hyatt, in Osoyoos.

McBean’s success as a hotelier can be partly attributed to his excitement in meeting international visitors, and his appreciation for global cultures. An avid traveller and keen foodie, he has visited over 60 countries, and is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Today, McBean is excited to share his expertise with the Watermark family as they grow into the brand’s next transformation.
