Eco Adventure The unique, semi-arid climate of the South Okanagan means that we experience four dry, sunny and beautiful seasons. The fertile agricultural basin, dramatic mountains, and vast steppes converge to make a perfect spot for eco-adventuring! A safe haven for endangered wildlife, and the transition point between the Sonoran desert and the inland temperate rainforest, the area invites adventurers to explore in a variety of ways. Hiking, biking, climbing, skiing, paddling, snowshoeing or even on horseback, discover the incredible beauty of the Osoyoos region this year!

Local Flavour – This valley was built upon fresh, ripe, perfect fruit. The popular crops may have changed over the course of the region’s history, but no matter what you’re eating, it’s bound to be unmatched in flavour. Spend an afternoon at a u-pick farm or orchard, harvesting your own ripe cherries, peaches, plums, berries, melons, or even grapes! Or simply stop by one of the ubiquitous roadside farmstands for a chance to taste the fresh-picked bounty. Nothing compares to this most delicious and quintessential Okanagan experience.

Healthy Bodies and Minds – Stretch out at (or on!) the lake. Join the talented instructors from Watermark’s Breathe Studio for a session of beachside yoga or paddleboard yoga (yes, it’s a thing –and it’s amazing). The sparkling waters of Osoyoos Lake will inspire you! Relax, get stronger, and take in the extraordinary beauty of this peaceful corner of the world.

Head to the Hills – Mount Baldy boasts champagne powder in the winter, views forever in the summer, and sunshine all year round! This Okanagan Highland peak offers a plethora of excitement for skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers, hikers and mountain bikers, or anyone who wants to bask in the beauty of an alpine playground.

Canadian Signature Experience Discover the best of the valley in one fell swoop on this incredible culinary tour. Explore the fertile landscape that runs from Osoyoos lake to Oliver’s 650 acre family-owned Covert Farms, learning about the delicate and varied local ecosystem along the way. Take a tour of one of the area’s oldest and hardest-working farms, taste award-winning local wines, and then enjoy a gourmet meal prepared with the day’s freshest ingredients under the twinkling desert sky.

Spotted Lake Osoyoos Bc

PLACES TO SEE

There’s a Whole World Out There – Take a short drive up to the Dominion Radio Astronomical Observatory for a self-guided tour of this incredible facility. The scientists, engineers, researchers and students who work here are helping to design ever-more-impressive radio telescopic and monitoring technologies for use around the world. Self-guided tours are an option throughout the year, and guided tours are available on summer weekends.

Watery Wonder at Spotted Lake – This natural wonder is a big attraction here in the Osoyoos area. Only minutes from Watermark Beach Resort, this unassuming spot along the highway hides an intriguing little body of water. Historically, the minerally-rich patches that float in the water have been used for medicinal purposes for the Okanagan First Nation. The lake itself is not accessible (it lies on private land), but the view is great from outside the fence. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” viewpoint that you will not want to miss!

All Aboard! The Osoyoos Desert Model Railroad A tiny, incredibly detailed world lives inside this warehouse space off the highway in Osoyoos. Every inch of this has been painstakingly handmade by the Pedersen family over the course of a lifetime; it is a fascinating recreation of recognizable and imagined places, all connected by over 2km worth of model train track. At times evocative, emotional and cheeky (and always awe-inspiring!), this miniature world deserves a giant place on your must-visit list.

The Spirit of the Desert – Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre is a showcase of the natural history and rich culture of the local Okanagan First Nations people. An informative and interactive desert walk, a protected habitat for flora and fauna, and inspired artistic displays make this a captivating, multi-sensory experience for the whole family.

With so many adventures to check off of your list, you may actually find it tough to fit it all in!
