In October, Watermark Beach Resort was fortunate to have hosted a dinner recognizing notable women involved in BC’s wine industry. That evening, two individuals that joined us were Maryke Vandermarel from Culmina Family Winery, and Val Tait from Gold Hill Winery. Both of them are great representations of the immense talent that we have in the BC wine industry.
2016 Decora Riesling From Culmina
At 15 Park, we are featuring a cellared 2016 vintage of the Decora Riesling from Culmina.
It is grown on Margaret’s Bench, one of the highest elevation growing sites here in the valley which typically grows cooler climate varietals.
This crisp, dry-style riesling has a nice acidity and is definitely a food wine. It is a wine with some minerality and stone fruit flavours.
Gold Hill Cabernet Franc
During the dinner, Val shared with us the Gold Hill Cabernet Franc. She was very proud of this wine, with good reason.
This is a great example of a delicious, big, juicy, fruit-forward Okanagan red wine. This wine has had a good amount of bottle time before it was released, resulting in distinct berry flavours with soft tannins and a lasting finish.
We had this wine with Chef Nick Atkin’s braised beef short rib and the flavours were perfect together. This is a wine that is well stocked in my cellar at home and also available on the 15 Park Bistro wine list.
