Like Food & Wine? Put These Okanagan Events On Your List!

You can’t spend time in the Okanagan Valley without developing a great love and appreciation for food and wine. When you are in a region surrounded by lush, fresh produce and renowned vineyards, the culinary world seeps into every conversation and permeates your daily life. The South Okanagan is also a place where we celebrate. A lot! Local wineries and restaurants are always finding a reason to host a party or celebrate a special event and, in a couple of weeks, Black Hills Estate Winery and Orofino Winery will be doing just that.

Starlit Supper at Tinhorn Creek

The South Okanagan is a beautiful place to escape from the big city and the skies are one of the greatest unsung reasons to visit our region. The small communities of Osoyoos and Oliver cast far less light into the night sky, resulting in a special opportunity to view the stars in all of their glory.

On Sunday, August 2nd, Tinhorn Creek will present their Starlit Supper, marrying their delicious wines and spectacular Miradoro dining experience with the night skies. Dine beneath the stars as the moon rises over the mountains. Telescopes from the Royal Astronomical Society will also be on hand so that you can get a closer look at those mystical, twinkling points of light.

Tickets for this magical, starlit evening can be purchased online.

The 1.6 Mile Dinner at Orofino Winery

It seems like the farm to table culinary movement is a staple of every Okanagan chef’s philosophy and every year, Orofino Winery takes it one step further for a very special evening.

On Friday, August 7th, guests will gather round and indulge in the 1.6 Mile Dinner, a 5-course dinner prepared by Joy Road Catering and Chef Mark Filatow of Waterfront Wines in Kelowna. What makes this annual tradition so special is that the ingredients are sourced from producers that are located within a 1.6 mile radius of Orofino Winery! Each course is paired with Orofino’s best wines for a true South Okanagan, local experience. The entire evening takes place at the Orofino Winery courtyard, a beautiful space that hearkens to summer evenings in Tuscany.

Call (250) 499-0068 for details and tickets.

Midsummer’s Night Dream at Black Hills Estate Winery

Our friends at Black Hills Estate Winery love a great party and they know how to do things right. Each year in August, Black Hills Estate hosts their Midsummer’s Night Dream party and it is one of the highlights of the year for locals and travellers alike.

This year, on Saturday, August 8th, their Wine Experience Centre will be transformed into a Miami-inspired ultra-lounge, nestled amongst the vineyards of the South Okanagan. The full portfolio of Black Hills wines will be available, including their renowned signature wine, Nota Bene. Flambe Catering will also be on hand, serving up delicious food creations that pair with your delectable wines.

When it comes to entertainment, Black Hills has you covered! Lounge by the poolside cabanas and relax in the summer sunset as DJ Shakes spins South Beach-inspired chill tunes. The evening will also feature bikinis from Bum Wrap in a sexy, poolside, Beachwear Fashion Show. Black Hills will also bring back The Aqualillies and their live water ballet show, the world’s only performance of synchronized swimming in a winery setting.

The team at Black Hills Estate Winery wants you to have a great time and they are providing complimentary shuttle service from Watermark Beach Resort and other area hotels.

For tickets and details please call Black Hills at (250) 498-6606 or visit BlackHillsWinery.com.
