Winemakers in the Spotlight: EAU VIVRE

Eau Vivre Winery

Eau Vivre is a boutique winery dedicated to showcasing the flavours of the Similkameen Valley. Sukh and Neetu Bajwa purchased the winery in 2017, and jumped in with both feet. They are committed to maintaining the excellent reputation of Eau Vivre’s award-winning portfolio.

Along with celebrated Valley winemaker, Anthony Buchanan, the Bajwas continue to produce handcrafted, small-lot wines of distinction. Eau Vivre’s Pinot Noir has twice been awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for excellence in British Columbia Wines. The Bajwa’s devotion to quality, their organic growing practices, and the unique Similkameen terrain contribute to Eau Vivre’s success.

Owner/Winemaker: Sukh Bajwa

What path led you to a career as a winemaker? The complexity and nuances involved in the process of winemaking always intrigued me.

If you were a wine, which wine would you be? I would be Merlot!

If you could only drink one wine for the rest of your life, what wine would it be and why? I would choose Pinot Noir, because it goes with wide variety of food, and I love food!

What is your greatest passion? Sports are my greatest passion. I love to watch them and to play them.

What might people be surprised to learn about you? People would be surprised to know that I can actually work really hard. (And winemaking is hard work –but I love it!)

What’s your secret food craving? I really love warmed up cake with ice cream on top. Is that such a secret? It is when I keep it all to myself.

What’s your favourite food to eat while watching movies? I love to munch on mixed nuts when I watch movies (the people sitting next to me don’t always love it when I do, though…).

What is your favourite grape, and why? Riesling, because it makes great icewine.

What drives you? I am married, what do you expect?

If you couldn’t do this, what would you do? I would be a brew master. My dreams are thirsty!

What is your favourite South-Okanagan/Similkameen activity? Drinking wine, of course.

Describe your dream meal: Lamb curry with tandoori roti, made by my wife.

What is your favourite food or wine film, and why? I love Bottle Shock, because it shows the challenges a winemaker faces –it’s that hard work fueled by passion that I mentioned before.
