Winemakers in the Spotlight: SEVEN STONES

Seven Stones Winery

Set on 20 acres of ideal Similkameen benchland, Seven Stones Winery is the dream of proprietors, George and Vivianne Hanson. Inspired by the vineyards and winemaking culture of Australia, George knew he’d one day be headed for a complete lifestyle change. The Hansons made their way to this lush valley after a career in the Yukon, and they’ve never looked back.

The vineyard and winery are named for the indigenous legend of the Seven Stones –glacial rock formations that can be found throughout the Similkameen Valley. These extraordinary monoliths endow the region with a sense of spirituality, and their ancient mineral beds comprise the unique terroir that is essential to the world-class wines grown here.

The Seven Stones vineyard takes full advantage of this fertile soil, and pays homage to the tradition of magic the accompanies them. Cultivating excellent fruit from eight very happy varietals, George and his crew are readily able to indulge their passion for creating award-winning and inspiring wines.

What is your favourite South-Okanagan/Similkameen activity? When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me fishing on my pond.

Describe your dream meal: Atlantic lobster –especially if it’s on risotto and paired with Gewurztraminer. Perfection!

What is your favourite food or wine film, and why? Bottle Shock; I love the idea that a wine could be so close to balance and get chucked out…and then become a winner!
