Welcome Back Mount Baldy – Stay Here, Ski There!

Here at Watermark Beach Resort, we are thrilled to welcome Mount Baldy back to the South Okanagan for the 2015 ski season. Our region truly is the perfect vacation destination for year-round fun, and the local ski hill is a big part of what our area offers.

Mount Baldy has seen some rough times in recent years, following the recession in 2008, and it didn’t open for the 2013/2014 season. A Calgary based company, Baldy Capital Corporation, has arranged for interim financing and has entered into an interim Management Agreement with the resort’s Receiver, G-Force Group. The company has also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to purchase Mount Baldy Ski Resort and plans to make the resort an important part of the local tourism sector.

“It’s been a challenging process with a very tight timeline. We have been working very hard to see if we could get the ski hill open for this season while the Receivership process and court approval of an Asset Purchase Agreement can be completed over the next several months,” said Fred Johnston, President of Baldy Capital Corporation. With the help of many key supporters in the community we are very pleased to finally be able to make this announcement.”

Thanks to strong community encouragement, Baldy Capital Corporation is investing the time and money necessary to open the ski hill for this season. Matt Koenig is another major factor in the mountain’s opening. According to a statement from the company, Matt’s “knowledge, experience, and persistence” has helped make the 2015 opening a reality.

Matt has lead a small team of former employees as they have quietly performed major maintenance and preparation for an opening over the past several weeks. Thanks in large part to their work, the goal of opening for a limited basis this season will be realized.

The company plans to open Mount Baldy in early January. Operational hours and lift access vary by season. Please check directly with Mount Baldy for the latest mountain updates.

Lift ticket pricing is subject to change each season. Visit the Mount Baldy website for current rates and availability.
