Special Olympics Honours Partnership with Watermark

We are blessed to call the South Okanagan home and the entire team at Watermark Beach Resort knows the importance of supporting our local community.

One of the wonderful causes that we choose to support is the South Okanagan chapter of Special Olympics BC (SOBC). Special Olympics BC provides individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in activities, sports, and socializing events. In order to offer a variety of winter and summer sports, including soccer, track & field, alpine skiing, and curling, as well as youth programs, Special Olympics BC counts on the donations of both money and time from gracious volunteers and organizations. Through the support of these volunteers and organizations, local chapters of SOBC are able to empower many deserving participants through sport, helping them to build confidence and better relate with others.

Over the past six years, Watermark Beach Resort has been working with Lee Chic, the local coordinator for South Okanagan Special Olympics. Lee organizes bottle recycling and has been collecting the bottle recycling from Watermark to help raise funds for the organization.

“Lee does an amazing job of keeping this area clean and organized and really goes above and beyond just collecting the bottles for returns,” said Paul Scanlon, Hotel Manager at Watermark Beach Resort. “Over the years, Lee has also organized a Watermark bowling day with the local Special Olympic athletes and our team had a lot of fun with that.”

The team at Watermark Beach Resort was recently honoured with a special plaque, signed by Dan Howe, president and chief executive officer with Special Olympics BC.

Through the efforts of Lee, Watermark Beach Resort has been able to help contribute $7,655 for the South Okanagan Special Olympics through the recycling program. When you recycle a bottle at Watermark Beach Resort, you are helping to make it possible for special individuals to take part in one of the many sport programs that Special Olympics BC offers.
