This is a Mother’s Day weekend from one of our guests, told in her own words. Some weekends take a little planning to pull off. This one took coordination across three cities and a few hundred kilometres of driving.
Our family came from three corners of BC: Vancouver, Kelowna and Cranbrook, all converging for Mother’s Day weekend at Watermark Beach Resort in Osoyoos. It was central enough for everyone to reach, special enough to earn the drive.
Friday: Arrival & A Dinner Worth The Trip
We rolled in Friday evening and settled into that easy resort rhythm almost instantly. Patio chairs overlooking the pool, birds in the trees below and the kind of warm Okanagan air that felt like a reward after the long Kootenay spring. Our two-bedroom suite had a full kitchen and plenty of room to spread out, which made the whole weekend feel like home rather than a hotel stay.
Dinner that first night was at 15 Park Bistro and it set the bar high right from the start. Seated outdoors, the service was attentive without being fussy and the wines by the glass were a highlight on their own. The shrimp alfredo was the kind of rich, indulgent dish that stays with you for days. The butternut squash entree was just as good in a completely different way: elegant, satisfying and polished. We spent most of dinner reverse-engineering both dishes and plotting how to recreate them at home.
The best part about Friday? Nobody needed to leave the property. After everyone’s long drives, we unwound in the adult hot tub while the kids splashed on the other side, then retreated to the suite to catch up properly over a glass of wine. Simple, easy and exactly the right start.
Saturday: Wine Country, Farmers Markets & Pool Time
Saturday was made for exploring.
The morning started with coffee in the suite before wandering up the street to Gino’s Coffee House for breakfast sandwiches. It was immediately clear this was a beloved local institution. Staff and regulars greeted each other by name and the tables filled fast. It is the kind of place you’re glad you found.
From there we strolled up Main Street to the Osoyoos Farmers Market, about a five-minute walk from the resort. The sun was out, the dogs were friendly and the energy was easy and warm. We loved talking to the vendors: one seller shared the story of his lavender fields in Grand Forks while a man passionately pitched his wife’s baked goods as she winked and said, “He’s my best salesman.” Two standout finds came home with us: a three-pack of Kizuna’s Sauces that have already earned a permanent spot in the pantry and a whipped lavender lotion from Classic Lavender Essentials that smelled like walking straight through the fields. These are exactly the kinds of discoveries that make farmers market browsing worth it.
After dropping our haul back at the resort, we made the short drive to Oliver for a tasting at River Stone Estate Winery. The backyard, family-run atmosphere was exactly what wine country is supposed to feel like: no pretense, just good people and a Sauvignon Blanc that was genuinely exceptional. They also took wonderful care of our mom with a complimentary tasting and a macaron, walking us through tannins and how they shape a wine’s flavour profile. Thoughtful touches like that make a lasting impression.
Lunch landed at The District Wine Village in Oliver and it was one of those happy-accident scenes: sun out, people dancing to live music and poke bowls that actually lived up to the setting. The crowd moved easily between wineries or settled into one and left with a case. We were just happy to sit back, soak up the heat and watch the whole thing unfold.
The afternoon’s final stop was La Stella Winery, one of my personal favourites and only seven minutes from Watermark. We sat on the patio overlooking Osoyoos Lake while Wade, the tasting room manager, walked us through the story of how the vines bounced back after the deep freeze of 2024. The way he told it, with obvious pride and a real attachment to the place, reminded us why wine country visits are about more than what’s in the glass. We finished the tasting with a sample of their imported Italian olive oil and white balsamic vinegar, both of which were so good we immediately wished we’d grabbed sourdough from the morning market. Needless to say, we all left with our arms full.
Back at Watermark, the afternoon became exactly what everyone needed: pool time. The kids splashed, the pool bar kept things refreshing and live music drifted over from the 15 Park patio. It was one of those rare moments when every member of every generation is content at exactly the same time. Stretched out on a lounger, our mom looked around and said, “I feel like I’m in Arizona right now. I can’t believe we’re still in Canada.”
Dinner at Campo Marina closed out the day perfectly: generous Italian portions, Okanagan wine by the bottle and a Maverick Pinot Noir that was the right pour for the evening. We made it back to the suite with the rest of the bottle and a full container of leftovers each, which felt like winning.
Sunday: Brunch, Mimosas & The Drive Home
Sunday started quietly. Coffee in the room, windows open and no particular hurry. Then we headed down to 15 Park one last time for their Mother’s Day brunch and it was exactly the right call. The salmon eggs benny was perfect: rich hollandaise, buttery salmon and the kind of dish that earns its place on a holiday menu. Our mom sipped her mimosa and let the morning settle in around her.
Eventually we checked out, said our goodbyes and headed home in three different directions: Vancouver, Kelowna and Cranbrook. All of us were full, rested and already talking about next year.
If you’re looking for a home base to explore the South Okanagan with people you love, Watermark Beach Resort makes it easy to do it well.
