How To Have a Relaxing Wedding… It’s Possible!

There’s a long-standing belief that weddings are stressful. The expectations are high and when you aren’t busy pinning away on Pinterest and poring over wedding magazines, you still have your “real life” to deal with. If that weren’t enough, by the time the day finally arrives, everything is a whirlwind, you can’t sleep, and you didn’t even get to try the delicious cake that you carefully hand selected. Watermark Beach Resort is here to tell you a secret… There’s a better way!

If you feel like your wedding is beginning to spiral out of control and it’s taking you with it, try these tips and tricks…

Put it in writing

When you have a moment of clarity, sit with a cup of tea and write down everything you wanted your wedding day to be. What did you and your fiance envision before the chaos and well-intentioned loved ones took over? When you have your thoughts down in writing, you can go back to them when you have doubts and use them as your guide for decision making and keeping things under control.

This could be you on your stress-free wedding day!

Let it go

Do your best to set reasonable expectations for your wedding day, as well as for your own planning capabilities. Your happiness is more important than the perfect shade of blue, so do your best to really consider whether a particular challenge is worth your energy and stress.

Ask for help

We can all be guilty of wanting to take on everything by ourselves, but this is a surefire way to get burned out quickly. Your friends and family want to help you and when you work with a great team like the one at Watermark, you know you can rely on others to help get things right. Deliver clear instructions and give tasks to people you trust and who are enthusiastic.

Don’t let “Wedding Brain” consume you

Some brides reach a point during wedding planning when every thought and conversation comes back to the big day. Let’s call this “Wedding Brain”. Not only does it alienate friends and family, it creates even more stress for you. Go to the movies, ask your friend about her job, read a great book, and give your mind a rest from its wedding duties.

Arrive early

If you are lucky enough to be a Watermark bride, or if you are having a destination wedding elsewhere, try to arrive a few days ahead of the wedding. Invite your close friends and family and take advantage of these days to relax and connect with the people who really matter in your life.

Plan for a buffer zone

When you plan for your wedding, try to create deadlines that are 1-2 weeks before the wedding day. This will allow you to create a sort of “buffer zone” for the wedding day, where you can set the planning aside and focus on spending quality time with your fiance, friends, and family. Of course, if you are staying at Watermark Beach Resort, that also means that you can take a load off and enjoy the stress-free life in Osoyoos.

Treat yourself

Set aside some funds in your wedding budget for a spa day before the wedding. Get a massage, facial, manicure, and pedicure. It will help you relax and you will feel pampered and prepared for your day in the spotlight. Illumination Spa at Watermark Beach Resort offers all of these services and more, so you can relax before your wedding without ever having to leave the resort.

Put the phone down

Set your phone aside for the big day and do your best to be present at all times. Memories are fragile, so you will want to soak in as much as you can. If you are concerned about any last minute emergencies or messages, give your phone to a trusted bridesmaid and have them deal with anything that comes up.

Reminisce with your love

Once the wedding day is over, you will be lost in a dreamy, romantic haze with your now-husband. Savour these moments! Try to keep your calendar clear and spend the entire day relaxing with the love of your life. Eat breakfast in bed, take a walk along the beach, go for a swim, and then sip a glass of wine as the sun sets on Osoyoos Lake. You only get one first day as husband and wife, so make the most of it!

Preserve the memories

As the dust from the wedding day settles, sit down and write out some of your favourite memories and the details of the day. Try to remember the feeling of waking up in the morning, getting ready with your bridesmaids, and walking down the aisle. Write down everything that you can remember while it’s still fresh in your mind and it will help you remember the details for years to come.

Over the years, the team at Watermark Beach Resort has worked with hundreds of brides to help make their dream wedding a reality. We understand how stressful and exciting your wedding can be and we are happy to help you put together a team of experienced Okanagan professionals to help make your wedding day as beautiful and relaxing as can be.
